Why not to Conquer the Mind

Many a times people make a warrior like Statement…”It is all about conquering the Mind”… I just need to conquer my damned mind…These statements are worth analyzing more…

The very statement about conquering the mind indicates that there are multiple units functioning in that individual…Who in you wants to conquer your mind?? It indicates there exists a voice… a character within, who wants to play the role of a Conqueror and a shadowy entity who is troubling in nature…who has to be Conquered…

The mind is essentially ONE… In an non-alert mind, the tenants can be many…often clashing with each other…often at loggerheads with each other with opposing viewpoints/contradicting beliefs… Should I or Shouldn’t I?? The more one listens to them, the more confused he is…

Forget all about conquering… This is surely the way to disaster on a battlefield… Stay away from all those folks who talk about conquering the mind…They know nothing…

All that is needed is “Understanding the Mind”. Each mind is wired differently… The beauty is no one else can understand your mind… You and You Only can understand your Mind… you can become more aware… more knowing, more understanding of how the mind functions…

“How” one may ask??

Very briefly…

The mind is an accumulated repository of sensory experiences. For every input, there is a predictable habituated output… Someone irritates you and anger explodes. Someone insults you and a fight manifests…Someone cracks a joke and laughter arises…

So for every situation…there is a fallback mechanism onto a previously stored experience…there is an access to a stored script and a predictable behaviour manifests…This sequencing happens within a fraction of a nano second…

Become more aware of the automated stored scripts in you… Once you are able to pause the sequencing and slow down and expand the fraction of a nano second recall, you can bring about change for the better… for now you know how the wiring is within the mind… Now you understand it…You are no longer controlled by external people, situations etc.

Second is don’t take sides for the many voices/clashing opinions/contradicting beliefs if any in you… Just remain a neutral observer…

Thoughts come…some good…some not so good…some pleasant…some unpleasant…some pious…some apparently sinful…Just like how the thoughts come…. the thoughts go as well… It is our mind which is desirous of clinging onto all thoughts.

The choice to latch onto thoughts is always ours!!

The choice to accommodate these thoughts…giving them a residing space and nourish them is also ours…

The choice is always ours!!

Developing the art of watching your thoughts as a Witness…A neutral observer… is growth… and an understanding of the mind…its patterns, its behavior happens of its own accord.
